Our Story

Pumphouse is an idea whose time has come

… in fact, its been on its way for about 20 years!

Friends - Michael and Rikki met many years ago when their children were in the same class at primary school - they were about to start a deli and cafe way back then… sidetracked when Michael and his partner Tammy moved to Spain.

Michael started one of the first vegetarian restaurants, Greens, in Manchester before a career at the Celtic bakery. When he and Tammy moved to Spain, Michael started his restaurant Las Granadas. Michael stayed true to that Spanish influence through his cooking over the years. More recently, he managed the iconic St John's Tavern in North London until the allure of starting his own business in Hastings became too strong.

Rikki spent her early working life on the sets of pop videos and commercials as an art director and stylist. After bringing up her children, she worked as an in-house chef and event host for hungry execs in the heart of Brick Lane - later, she started a film and TV catering company Big Mouth with an emphasis on theatrical-themed events. Lately, she has fallen in love with a funny-looking building in the heart of Alexandra Park.
