Our Story
Pumphouse is an idea whose time has come
… in fact, its been on its way for about 20 years. Rikki began her working life on the colourful sets of pop videos and TV commercials as an art director and stylist. After raising her children, she swapped fashion rails and studio life for frying pans, becoming an in-house chef and event host for hungry executives in the heart of Brick Lane. This naturally led to launching Big Mouth, a film and TV catering company with a flair for theatrical, themed events.
Then she fell for a funny-looking little building in the middle of Alexandra Park… and nearly three years later, The Pumphouse has become much more than a café. Known for its warm, welcoming atmosphere and seriously good food, it’s also a much-loved hub for gloriously quirky events — from the Alternative Dog Show and Traitors nights to joyfully chaotic Christmas quizzes.
With evening music events now happening regularly, there’s always something brewing beyond coffee. Keep an eye on Instagram or Facebook for what’s coming up next — you never quite know what will be happening at the Pumphouse.
